Pahari Footprints
Women’s Traditional Attire
Pheran - Often embroidered with Kashida (Kashmiri embroidery). Women’s versions are more ornate with zari work or colorful threads.Taranga - A headgear traditionally worn by Kashmiri Pandit brides and women.
Kasaba - A headscarf tied with silver ornaments, worn by Gujjar and Bakarwal women.
Ghagra/ Skirts and Kurti - In some Pahadi areas, long pleated skirts and tunics are common.
Shawl/ Chadar - Wool or Pashmina wraps, worn for warmth and style.
Men’s Traditional Wear
Pheran - A long, loose woolen cloak worn by both men and women. Often lined with cotton or worn over a warm woolen inner.Churidar or Poots – Tight - fitting trousers, traditionally worn under the pheran.
Dussa - Woolen shawl draped around shoulders in winter.
Turban - (Pagh or Patka) Especially in rural Pahadi communities; varies in style by region.
